What A Deal!
I was just reading an article on Yahoo about two engineers from China were sentenced to a year in prison for stealing computer chip designs from their employers. And the secrets that they where stealing where going to be used for a government-backed startup in China. The two men where charged and convicted of the Economic Espionage Act of 1996, which carry’s a sentence of 30 years in the slammer. If you ask me they got of with a slap on the hand. If I where their past employers I would have demanded the maximum sentence. As an American I feel cheated, these guys should have gotten a lot more time. Anyone that steals from our country employers to smuggle secrets to their homeland should get the full sentence under the law. This makes no real sense to me, it just sends a message that it’s ok to steal from your employer’s secrets and nothing will happen to you.
