More Cuts Coming!

Today AOL LLC, an Internet company said they plan on reducing their workforce by 2,500 people. Their going to be asking for volunteers, which will come with a buyout offer. I read that the buyouts were going to cost close to $200 million. This just shows that the online advertising is still slumping. Also read that new AOL CEO, Tim Armstrong is also forgoing a bonus this year. It’s probably a good idea for him to refuse that bonus, because the talk around the bathroom hand dryers wouldn’t be good for him. Anyway, this cut will save AOL about $300 million annually, which is huge. Their going to force more on what’s profitable within AOL, and cut off areas that are not. I think a cut of this size will give AOL the chance to save money and start fresh. They will help them grow in new areas of the Internet, and make them stronger down the road.

Blocking Apps!

It seems that Apple Inc. has blocked the Google Voice app because it could have cut into their monthly plans. Google’s app was going to cut into what Apple and AT&T could charge for. Google feels cheated and want’s to be unblocked. Now federal regulators want to know why Google was blocked. Apple Inc. said they blocked the app, Google Voice because it alters the functions of the phone. I wondering what other apps Apple Inc. is blocking. Most apps are free, or very cheap. But if an app is going to cut into Apple’s profit chances are it will be blocked. I don’t own a iPhone, so I can careless, at this point. I have been considering on getting an iPhone so I can do my work on the run. What I would need is an online backup app, if there’s one out there. So when the day comes that I own an iPhone I’ll start to care. Hopefully the FCC will get everything fixed soon, not likely.

The Big One!

Have any of you heard about what’s going on with the Large Hadron Collider machine? You know, the machine that will one day collide two atoms at almost the speed of light. The machine that a lot of people think could cause a black hole on earth and destroy us all. The same machine that has cost a few countries just over $10 billion to build and fund the project. Oh, yes, that machine. Well know some people are calling the machine a big black hole, because of wasteful speeding. From what I read the machine so far has ran for a total of 9 days, and as yet to collided an atom. That’s because right after start up the machine had a power surge and destroyed 51 piece’s of the collider. Which by the way each piece cost over $1 million, wow. I read that it takes months to reassemble just one piece. Anyway, when they get the mounts, pieces back in place they hope to fire the machine at half power sometime in November. If everything works out a full power collide of 2 atoms could be right around the corner. And if some people are right we may all be gone in a second.

All Digital Now!

I was just reading that almost 800,000 calls came in to the federal hot line this week. All these people where calling because their TV’s went out when the switch from analog to digital happened. These people where calling in for help and coupons to get a converter. I find this to be very funny that these people where that stupid to think the switch wasn’t coming. It’s like they where thinking it was never going to happen. These are the same people that have never heard of a compact flash cards for a digital camera. Anyway, I hate it when your told something is going to happen and people just put it off, then cry that they didn’t know. The FCC have been telling us about the switch for about a year now.
